| Race Report - Duns |
Team DB Racing Honda headed to Duns in Scotland this past weekend for the penultimate round of this season’s British Motocross championship with Elliott Banks Browne looking to consolidate his 2nd place in the championship. The track was in good condition considering that the area had been hit by heavy rain all through the week in the lead up to the event and come Sunday the sun was shining and the wind was also present, helping to dry the track out. Qualification well ok for Elliott with a 4th place in the opening session but he then slipped back to 8th in the Superpole shootout. Race 1 saw Elliott grab the lead from the off and he soon set about trying to pull out a lead, which he did with reasonable success until championship leader Arnaud Tonus made he way upto 2nd and started to reel Elliott in. He was still hanging in there in the lead despite Tonus closing the gap and putting him under heavy pressure, but with just 2 laps to go the pressure became too much and Tonus found a way past as Elliott was trying to get through some back markers. With the lead now gone Elliott sat in behind Tonus to take a 2nd place finish. Race 2 saw disaster strike for Elliott as it all got a bit to close on the start straight and he crashed very heavily, in obvious discomfort he got back to his bike and remounted in dead last. Elliott was pushing through the pain barrier and charging up through the race standings and by halfway he found himself up into the top 10, with a handful of laps to go Elliott had made it upto 6th place but the top 5 were away in the distance so 6th was the best he could manage by the finish. With Elliott in pain from his wrist and back following his race 2 crash it was unsure if he would start race 3, but he kitted up and went for it, grabbing the holeshot and leading the opening 2 laps but the pain was becoming too much and he slipped back to 2nd, Elliott was now struggling to hold onto the bike with the pain from his wrist and a few laps later this led to a small crash and he dropped back to 5th. He was now in a clear 5th place and took that position all the way to the finish. Elliot’s results on the day gave him a tied 3rd place overall, but he was denied a podium place on the virtue of a better last race finish from Neville Bradshaw. He stays 2nd in the championship with a 61 point lead over 3rd place, any chance of claiming the championship win has now gone as Tonus has a larger lead than the points on offer, and he was crowned on the podium. |
